I've been thinking of using "Motherless Child" for a while, and thought now would be a good time to use Richie Havens version as a tribute to his great life.
Ever since I heard Mark Epstein speak on PBS's The Buddha, the song reminds me of his speaking about how, and I'm paraphrasing, when the Buddha lost his mother as a new born baby, he already suffered such a primal lose that perhaps that tragedy was instrumental in his path to Buddha-hood, having to suffer on such a primitive level.
