Somewhere In Drama...

Lately, I've been trying to ignore all the talk about North Korea, but it is stressful living here under these conditions. It's stressful living here anyway!

I'd like to think it's all talk, and hopefully it is. Really, there's very little North Korea would accomplish going to war, though South Koreans will say, when North Korea goes down, they'll take the South with them.

It's pretty obvious to me that they are mostly just trying to spread fear. For eight years everytime they made threats, the South responded with money and food, talk about negative reinforcement! Finally, the South is seeing the error in this, so now the North is throwing an even bigger tempertantrum. There's very little they could do if there were actual war.

A lot of the North's talk is also to convince its own people of how powerful they are and that the world trembles with fear before them. "Look, we threaten them, and they shower us with gifts." They are also taught that everything bad that happens to them is because of America. There was a documentary I saw a few years ago and when there was an evening power cut, the familly all began cursing America for turnign off their power. I know some North Koreans are beggining to ask, if they are so fierce, then why is their living condition so bad. Probably a dangerous question to ask publicly, though.

I think that's a big part of what's driving the new leader, to maintain an image of all powerful leader, and the South isn't playing along. This is the part that makes me nervous. What might he do in desperation to uphold his false image to his people.
