The Second Precept (visited through The Kids In the Hall)

I vow to abstain from taking things not given.


Commentary:

Taking that which is not given can simply be understood as stealing, but really it goes much deeper, into the depths of our desires, perhaps even a perception that some external thing will complete us or make us happy.

I sometimes wonder, if possession is mere illusion, than isn't the concept of taking an illusion just the same? I think, as this skit demonstrates, the feeling of loss suffered by those who have been taken from manifests in a very real way.
