Fina's rice cooker banana bread

One of the struggles of raising a baby in a culture so different from the one you grew I grew up in is that I often find myself wishing Fina's experience could be more in common with my own.

It's not that I think my way is better (well, sometimes I do!), it's more that there are so many things I wish I could share with her.

In an culinary manifestation of the middle way, I got the idea to try and make banana bread in the rice cooker.

I'd never made banana bread in a real oven, let alone an old, greasy rice cooker but it was worth a try.

I went to the store with a list of ingredients I'd copied from the Internet, plus a couple of my own, set everything up on the counter and, with Fina's help, started mixing it all together.

It took almost four hours in the old rice cooker, but once it cooled it was almost as good as the banana bread my dad would bring home from the Farmer's Market!

Fina was sure it was cake, and I couldn't convince her otherwise, and she ate half the loaf the next day for breakfast!

"Fork!"

  1. Joseph, that so so sweet! Seeing you and Fina cooking banana bread just melted my heart. She is adorable.

I know what you mean about raising your child when there are 2 parents from different cultures. It's not easy. It takes a lot of work and compromise. It's good to see you've taken the initiative to share something special with your daughter. Fina will always remember that!!
