Dharma audit

I guess it would be an understatement to say it seems like things come out of nowhere, except everything I've learned says otherwise...

I got to work today and had my co-worker tell me that the principal of the school called her late the night before to say that the department of education had heard that the school was giving our program "special treatment" and that they will be sending people to investigate tomorrow.

I just had to ask, "Well, are we?" to which I was told, actually, yes, and that our program is illegal because it's a private company operating in a public school. It didn't come as a total surprise, on my first day of work, I was told not to tell the vice-principal who I worked for because he thought it was a nonprofit organization. That never made a bit of sense to me (at least I haven't heard of any nonprofit English programs in Korea!) but as long as the principle knew, I figured everything was fine. What I didn't know until today is that the company I work for forks over cash "under the table" to have our program in the school.

The conversation ended with my co-worker casually telling me we'll possibly be interviewed by the department of education tomorrow and they'll ask if we work for a company. I knew the answer to my last question already but I felt the need to ask it anyway... "And I should lie?"

"Yes, of course!"

I know in the whole scheme of things, it's not that great of a deal, but I really don't want to go to work tomorrow!!!
