Monday Morning Blues; Forty-Four

An important aspect of mindfulness is investigative awareness. Without mindfulness, we might not become aware of the Dukkha we carry around with us until it causes physical pain.

The blues shares this quality of investigative awareness. Unfortunately, what's lacking, at times, is the knowledge or direction to know what to do once awareness has arisen.

In Howlin' Wolf's 1954 cover of "Forty-Four", he finally becomes aware of the pain he's afflicted upon himself, carrying his dukkha around for so long. In this case, manifested in a forty-four caliber pistol. "I wore my forty-four so long, I made my shoulders sore..."

If you find you've held something for so long that it's begun causing you pain, especially if it's something like a forty-four, my advice would be, let it go, before it causes anymore pain...
