There is at least one example in the Pali Cannon of the Buddha stopping a battle armed with nothing but wisdom.
I was thinking today about this and realized it also says a lot about the kings who were willing to listen to and be moved by his words. How many leaders, on the brink of war, would be capable of the same today?
